Scotland has never been a wholly Celtic Country although Gaelic was historically the major language of Scotland, alongside strong Norse influences, and is still spoken in the Highlands and Islands.
Throughout Scotland there are many fine examples of Celtic art and design. The ancient Celtic Knot work and Celtic spirals are still strongly reflected in modern designs. Scotland today also has a strong textile and woollen industry producing items of exceptional quality.
